What's Your Current Occupation?

My name is Shirley and right now,I am an accessories designer since I focus on accessories such as Bags & Jewelry.  As I become more known for fashion, I hope to switch that title to Fashion and Accessories Designer.

How long have you been into Fashion?

Since I was a fetus.  I bet there’s an ultrasound somewhere with me holding thread and a needle with a Vogue magazine in the background.

I’ve honestly have been creating since I was a little girl (4 years old-ish).  In first grade, I remember making a pair of shorts (They were cute too).  While sewing everything with a thread and needle my mom asked me what I was doing and I explained that I wanted the hemline to look as though it was done with a sewing machine (I was sewing very tiny stitches) when she saw that she went out and bought me my first sewing machine.

What's your expertise in Fashion, Men or Women?

My expertise at the moment is handbags, as soon as I make them, they sell out; second up is jewelry.

Where do you see Fashion going in the next 5 years?

I believe designers will have more control of their destiny with fashion in five years.  With social media being what it is, it is easier to reach your target audience.  I believe fashion will have a wider acceptance of esthetics.  I believe it will be more receptive and understanding that people come in many shapes, sizes and color.

What's your favorite color?

That’s like asking who is my favorite child.  If I had to pick, I definitely gravitate towards fuchsia, while dipping my toes in teal, coral and gold.

Tell us more about your brand?

I wanted to create a brand that would become a legacy.  I named it after my two daughters, as I see they are also very interested in fashion. Their styles are complete opposite, but I love the juxtaposition.  One daughter (Inoshi) has a tomboy edge to her while the other (Imani) is quite girly.  I’m presently setting up an Etsy shop where you can find my accessories.  I will later migrate to a website.

What's your hometown?

My hometown is Cambridge, MA

Who do you look up to in Fashion?

Valentino, Chanel, Dior, Ralph Lauren, Viktor & Rolf, Mischka Aoki, You (Speaking of VonRay), my list is endless.

Favorite music artist?

There are so many at the moment Sia, there’s magic in her voice!  I’m very versatile when it comes to music.  I can go from listening to Classical (Moonlight Sonata & Fur Elise are my favorites), to Adele to Marc Anthony to Young M.A.

What influences your STYLE?

Authenticity. Vibing on what comes organically. My environment. I would describe my style at the moment to be tomboy, chic but mixed with an romantic edge.
