Hello ALL!

I lowkey miss ya'll...I have been so swamped with VonRay's "DAMAGED" FashArt Exhibition preparations and designing the Unconventional DAMAGED Collection. We had the first FashArt show in Shreveport, LA, our hometown to kick off a FashArt Tour and it was INCREDIBLE. So, grateful to GOD. We had three showtimes on June 4th and each show was sold out. I will be writing a blog soon to talk about the Damaged Tour... Houston,TX is the next city we will hit in July! We were also was granted our own Proclamation by the Mayor Ollie Tyler of Shreveport,LA our own official day... "VonRay Day" is June 4th every year!! This is so legendary for VonRay.

Official Proclamation for VonRay Day on June 4

Thank you Dr. J Pickens for working with us and making this happen, you are super Dope!

Now Lets Talk Fashion... Obviously thats what you are here for!

I was prompted to make a bunch of Denim pieces, because of a vivid thought of my beautiful late mother. She loved denim, 98% of her wardrobe was Denim. That's one reason I was super excited to be connected with Mah-Jing Wong last season on Project Runway, we had that instant Godly connect and his design aesthetic of designing denim reminded me of a soft spot in my heart for my mother's love for Denim. My sister and I actually still own a lot of denim pieces from my mother's wardrobe. God gave me another great inspiration and it was my sweetie pie, Charleste Cotton, who is a MUA and Full-Figured Model. We have had the pleasure of having her Model and as a MUA for VonRay Fashion Shows & VonRay's Damaged FashArt Exhibition. So, I was scrolling IG, something I rarely do & saw a couple of dope photos of her wearing a Crop Top, can we say she LOOKED GORGEOUS. She inspired me to create the Light Blue Floral Cropped Top (which I named after her "Cha-Floral Crop") that you will see on me later on in this blog paired with a Denim Wrap skirt I made and a Lane Bryant Denim button-up shirt. I decided two weeks ago that I wanted to create a mini-collection of simple Denim, transitional seasonal pieces for Full-Figured Women & call it "Fat Girl BLUEZ". This collection will be presented in PFW (PlusSize Fashion Week Africa) in September (Praying God allows everything to go well).

Check out these two beautiful crop top looks from Charleste's Instagram:

I love the color palette & pattern marriage in this look from Charleste.

How long have you been into modeling?

I've actively been into modeling for about a year now, but my interest in the art of modeling extends to a length of 5 years.

What's your expertise?

I'm aiming to become well versed in many different areas of modeling, but currently my expertise is Commercial Print modeling.

Where do you see Fashion going in the next 5 years?

In the next 5 years, I see a great emergence of more smaller business brands and designers taking over fashion; due to the fact that many individuals are making the decision to start creating and designing their own clothes; and by the adoration and love they receive from their fellow peers concerning these designs, they ultimately decide to sell their designs, market them by way of social media, and gain revenue through online stores. Consumers see these small businesses as a chance to obtain the same (or better) designs that the major brands offer, but within a more economical price range. This I believe, is the future of fashion.

What is your favorite color?

My favorite color is red.

Tell us more about your modeling? When did you start? Where can people see your portfolio?

My love for modeling, I believe, began subconsciously as a child. From a very early age I loved taking pictures and being in front of a camera; whether it was with a personal camera, picture day at school, or a yearbook photo. As time went on, I began to realize that I possessed somewhat of a gift---being photogenic. From there my interest and appreciation for the art of modeling grew, but I never actually participated in it. Then, one day, about a year ago, I received a call about coming to do a Fall fashion shoot for a college magazine. The shoot was successful, and I was urged by the photographer  there to consider doing a shoot to establish a portfolio; and now a couple of shoots later, here I am; working persistently at building my modeling career.

Where can people see your portfolio?

Anyone interested in viewing my portfolio can check it out at modelmayhem.com/thedariusjavelle

What's your hometown?

I was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Who do you look up to in the modeling industry?

Two individuals in the modeling industry whom I look up to are Tyson Beckford and Keith Carlos.

Who is your favorite music artist?

Drake.

What influences your style?

My style is influenced by that which simultaneously accentuates both sleekness and edge.

Tell us a little about yourself and your brand.

Well first Shrodrick Spikes is my name. Since I'm an artist and designer, I decided to utilize my name as my brand/umbrella for all of my work. Eventually, I'll have more sub-brands, but starting out I focus on creating commercial art and design in a contemporary and minimalistic style. I also incorporate typography and logo marks in my work to give the viewers this idea that the work is commercialized. My most recent design is my custom pendant. The Spikes Celestial Pendant®. It's a laser engraved geometric shape on its surface which forms a spaceship. It's made from acrylic.

Where are you from?

Atlanta, Ga

Who do you admire or look up to in the Fashion Industry?

I really don't look up to any, but I respect a lot of fashion designers.

Who is your favorite music artist?

I can give you a few...Lana Del Rey, T.I., B.O.B, M83 and Empire of the Sun

What influences your Style?

My style is influenced by my mood. How ever I feel when I wake up basically dictates what I'll wear, which is probably all black, some cool shoes, and some nice accessories.
